Current image communication and collaboration methods:
postal-mail, fax, E-mail, FTP, World Wide Web - passive methods
Next generation Internet tools provide for active methods of collaborative
computing with images
The Internet may be used to:
1. Publish data which is suitable for comparison between labs
2. Publish data which is not suitable for comparison, but serves as
  representative instances
3. Peer-review Internet databases to help address the data quality issue
4. Provide standard samples of known data (Eg. 2D gels with
  spot maps of identified proteins)
