Image Flicker - A Method to Visually Compare Images
- Image Flickering is the rapid alternate display of two
images which overlay
the same visual space
- History: mechanical and computer flickering used in
astronomy, military intelligence analysis,
2D gel analysis comparisons, etc.
- Images are locally aligned by moving one image with
respect to other while flickering
- Images appear to fuse together, enhancing differences, if
- Flicker rate is adjusted (0.1 to 1 second)
for type of material and user
- User is reasonably close to display
- Local regions are well aligned with most features aligned
- Differential flicker (displaying one image longer on screen
than the other) is useful
for comparing light and dark samples
