Select a Pair of 2D Gel Images to Flicker Compare from MCF7 breast cancer cell lines study

In the scroll boxes below are listed a number (13) of gel images from a larger study of protein expression differences seen in cell lines of interest to the NCI drug discovery program (see Weinstein, Bethesda). These images represent the central portions of gels from MCF7 cell line derivatives selected for drug resistance by exposure to various anticancer drugs (T. Fojo, et al., unpublished). The individual images were extracted from a computer-generated montage (mcf70001) created by the program Kepler (Large Scale Biology Corp., Rockville, MD). Over all, 1,014 spots were indexed. Red pseudocolor indicates a spot incorporated into an initial quality-controlled database of 151 spots for analysis; blue pseudocolor indicates a spot not in the quality-controlled database. The first listed is a master gel made from a mixture of cancer cell lines. The gels were run by N.L. Anderson, Large Scale Biology Corp. These gels are also in the 2DWG meta-database where you can get a breast gel subset of the 2DWG.

(Note: These images have been placed here at an early stage in their analysis to illustrate application of the Flicker program and to indicate "coming attractions" from this database, not to tell the scientific story involving development of drug resistance).

The variants are denoted L621B, L612C, L612E, L612J, L612L, L612N, L612P, L612Q, L612S, L614P, L614Q and L614S.

To Flicker Compare two gels:

1. First select a different image for the Left and Right images. This entails a) setting the radio button for the source type and b) selecting the particular image from the scrollable list or typing it directly. You may use any of the three from image sources available for both the Left and Right images. Note: you can only compare different images (not an image against itself).

2. Then press Go Flicker to generate a Flicker comparison of this pair of images.

3. Please WAIT while images load. Depending on the access speed of the web site where the images reside, this may take several minutes.
